📢 Urgent: Fee Hike Grievance — SSM College of Engineering, Parihaspora, patan.
We, the students of the 3rd semester (moving into 4th semester), are raising our voice against an abrupt fee hike of nearly ₹30,000 annually, imposed mid-session by the college administration.
Our concerns:
The hike was announced mid-semester, not at the start of the academic year, giving us no time to plan or arrange finances.
No prior notice was given to students or parents before implementation.
No approval or communication has been shown from University of Kashmir, to which SSM College is affiliated.
Students were given no option to exit the course/collage and no fee waiver has been offered for the current academic year despite the lack of due process.
This mid-term financial burden is directly affecting students' ability to continue their education without hardship.
Who is responsible / who should be answering to us:
SSM College administration/management — for imposing the hike without following due process.
University of Kashmir — as the affiliating university, it is expected to be informed of and approve major fee revisions by affiliated colleges.
J&K Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC) — this is the statutory body empowered by the Supreme Court and High Court of J&K to regulate fee structures of private educational/professional institutions in J&K. No private institution can revise fees without its approval.
Directorate of Technical Education, J&K (if SSM is a technical/engineering college) — oversight body for technical institutions.
What we are demanding:
Immediate rollback of the fee hike for the current academic year.
Written clarification on whether this hike was approved by the University of Kashmir and/or the FFRC.
A transparent, written fee policy at the start of future academic sessions — not mid-term.
Option for affected students to raise formal grievances without fear of academic retaliation.
